Damon Williams is the founder and president of Outside the Box Youth Center, established in 2025 with the mission of creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering space where teenagers can grow, connect, and thrive. He believes that opening minds, embracing new experiences, and stepping beyond the boundaries of normality are essential for young adults to reach their full potential.

A retired veteran, Damon proudly served 21 years in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at five duty locations including Germany and Japan and deployed to six, including the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan. His distinguished service earned him numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one service star. Yet, among all his accolades, Damon is most proud of being named Volunteer of the Year in 2018 for his dedication to local youth and his efforts in organizing a free basketball camp at Holloman Air Force Base.

Following his retirement, Damon returned to his hometown on the east side of Detroit, where he now focuses on giving back to the community that raised him. Through Outside the Box Youth Center, he continues to inspire and uplift the next generation, ensuring that young people have the opportunities, guidance, and encouragement they need to succeed.

Shelia Curtis is a licensed Michigan attorney, compliance executive, and Detroit native who serves as Vice President of Outside the Box Youth Center. Born and raised on the east side of Detroit in the 48205 zip code, Shelia brings both personal experience and professional expertise to the organization’s mission of supporting youth growing up in under-resourced neighborhoods.

Shelia currently serves as Chief Compliance Officer in the public sector, where she leads high-level legal, ethics, and risk management initiatives impacting statewide systems. Her work focuses on accountability, transparency, and building structures that protect communities while strengthening public trust.

A graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School, Shelia went on to earn her bachelor’s degree, MBA, and Juris Doctorate. Her lived experience growing up on Detroit’s east side continues to shape her passion for advocacy, access to opportunity, and community development.

Through Outside the Box Youth Center, Shelia is committed to helping create pathways for young people to thrive by supporting programming that promotes education, mentorship, leadership, and long-term stability. She believes that proximity to opportunity changes lives and is dedicated to ensuring that Detroit youth have access to the tools, spaces, and support they deserve.

Jasmine is a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who brings a strong commitment to service, leadership, and community care to her role as a Board Member of Outside The Box Youth Center. With multi-state licensure and extensive hands-on healthcare experience, she offers a unique perspective rooted in empathy, responsibility, and advocacy for the well-being of others especially youth and families.
In her professional role with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Jasmine provides high-quality patient care by administering medications, conducting physical assessments, managing wound care and IV therapy, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care. She is deeply involved in patient and family education, helping individuals understand their health needs and empowering them to take an active role in their care.
Throughout her career in long-term care, rehabilitation, and clinical settings, Jasmine has demonstrated strong leadership by supervising certified nursing assistants (CNAs), maintaining accurate electronic health records, and upholding the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism. Her clinical background has strengthened her ability to make informed decisions, manage responsibility, and support teams working in high-impact environments.
As a Youth Center board member, Jasmine is especially passionate about creating safe, supportive spaces where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. She advocates for programs that promote academic success, life skills, wellness, and positive decision-making. Her healthcare experience reinforces the importance of prevention, education, and early intervention. These are values she actively supports at the board level.
Jasmine earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certification from Dorsey School of Business in Wayne, Michigan, holds a Phlebotomy Certification, and is First Aid and CPR certified. While being proud of these accomplishments she recently enrolled in Dorsey as an Alumina to further her career path to become a Registered Nurse to show others that juggling a career, being a full time mother and wife with self goals may be hard but not impossible. She brings both professional expertise and genuine compassion to her leadership role, guided by a belief that strong communities are built by caring for people at every stage of life.
